William F. Buckley singlehandedly restored intellectual respectability to the conservative movement. Sadly, what he built in a generation, the conservative movement squandered in almost seven short years. Organizations like “The Conservative Voice” have expanded the definition of conservatism beyond meaning, forcing the label to embrace even those members of the blinded fringe, the creationists, thereby dragging the movement back to the stone age.
For an example, take a look at this treasure trove, defending creationism as a conservative idea. Friends, just as science knows no political affiliation, neither does fake science. It’s just… wrong. Anyways, take a read, and come on back to get the facts.
By now we’re all aware that Barack Obama has repudiated, openly and angrily, the words of his former pastor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. So how would Fox News spin that story? He’s a flip-flopper? No, but close. From right outside the News Corp. building in Manhattan, here we have it – “Ya Gotta Do What Ya Gotta Do.” This cheap shot is exactly why we need to play dirty this election. Conservatives sure as Hell aren’t going to play nice.
We are a society built on science, on the idea that facts can be knowable, and used to construct solutions to build a better reality for those around us. America was founded on this idea of progress through knowledge. At the point where we allow scientific, objective reality to become a “spinnable” issue, subject to the political process, we abandon that commitment, and endanger our national heritage and our future.
I write today to point out that both sides of the political spectrum are guilty of this crime. Continue reading
