There’s a slim chance that, by the time this post goes up and people start replying, its subject will be moot. But, let’s start anyways. Who do you think will be Obama’s pick for Vice President? Add your guess in comments, and whoever gets it right will win… uh… something. Unclear.
I was putting my money on Evan Bayh, but I hear from Matt that Bayh and Clarke are out. Speculators at “Yes to Democracy” are pushing for Gore, but while I think that pick could potentially restore America’s karmic balance from its 2000 deficit, I still don’t think it’s that likely (Gore likes being out of the political limelight lately). But the way I see it, we have:
- Wesley Clarke
- Evan Bayh
- Chuck Hagel
- Joe Biden
- Al Gore
- Hillary Clinton
- Chris Dodd
- Tim Kaine
- Other minor player
HuffPost currently has Hillary in the lead. I’d love to hear your guesses.
Update: the smart InTrade money goes with Matt’s bet, and backs Biden.
Ahem. I’ll kick things off, and say that I’d be thrilled with Bayh but I don’t expect Obama to pick him. My guess would be Tim Kaine: lock up Virginia, associate oneself with a popular Southerner, win win win win.
Posted by Ames | August 18, 2008, 5:41 pmI’m betting Biden. Yeah, yeah, he’s the candidate du jour now, but judging by how “safe” Obama’s been playing it, Biden seems right.
And that’s my detailed expert analysis. He feels appropriate.
Posted by MattF | August 18, 2008, 5:45 pmI’m kinda getting tired of the not knowing, there’s so many pros and cons to each of them, I just kinda want to be out of the VP guessing game.
That being said the ones I have been hoping for are Clark, Biden, or Sebelius.
Ones on your list which I am guessing are not on the short list: Gore, Clinton, and Hagel.
The one who I’m thinking it will actually be is Bayh. But that’s mainly because of all the press he’s been getting about it. Kaine on the other hand doesn’t seem strong enough to clench the VP spot.
Posted by Oneiroi | August 18, 2008, 6:06 pmBayh.
After seeing Obama ramble at the Forum, i’d love Biden. It would be a Big Mouth Ticket.
Posted by Progressive Conservative | August 18, 2008, 8:48 pmWell, I hate Evan Bayh.
And I just don’t see him picking another Senator!
I’m still holding out for Wes Clark or Kathleen Sebelius, and if past behavior is any guide, the Obama campaign has the headfake down to a science.
Posted by Evan | August 18, 2008, 9:24 pmI tend to agree with Ames. I think the right will too easily paint Biden as a “hard left” liberal as they would with Bayh. Kaine seems like an OK choice, although Sebelius would be great.
(PS–I’m Sterile from RW)
Posted by Ian | August 18, 2008, 10:41 pmHi Sterile! I know NOTHING about Sebulius. Matt thinks it might be her, but picking a woman who’s not Hillary…
…hmm. On second thought, might be genius.
Posted by Ames | August 18, 2008, 10:56 pmI never understood that argument, it would seem silly to be mad because another woman get’s the VP spot…but it is Puma so it wouldn’t be that surprising.
Posted by Oneiroi | August 19, 2008, 12:39 amI’m really hoping for Sibelius.
Clark would be alright too.
Too bad Ann Richards is no longer with is. Now that was a woman I would have liked in the White House. Perhaps we may have to resort to some form of necromancy.
Posted by Anzezzle | August 19, 2008, 3:09 amThis is one of those questions where it’s easier to answer who it won’t be…
It’s won’t be… Clinton, Clarke, Bayh, Gore. Other than those, Biden is the only one I’ve heard of here in Britain, so him.
