Kris, I've always preferred a sequence of events following one of these templates:

Template A:
1. Offend someone with speech.
2. Offended party gets over it.
3. All is well.

Template B:
1. Offend someone with speech.
2. Offended party makes own offensive speech back.
3. All is well.

Template C:
1. Offend someone with speech.
2. Offended party yells and screams, blows up buildings, riots, or otherwise acts out of hand.
3. Whiff of grapeshot disperses offended party and all is well.

1. Offend Christians with speech.
2. Christians yell and scream, call for people to be fired, say hateful things back, etc.
3. Offending Christians is OK.

1. Offend Muslims with speech.
2. Muslims kill people and blow up buildings.
3. Offending Muslims is NOT OK.

I see how this works.

the unhrc is dominated by islamic countries and smatterings of failed or near-failed states ... it is a sick and sad paradox ...

the problem is that china and russia go along with stuff like this ... maybe to stick it to the u.s., maybe because china, esp., is exploiting these countries in africa, and maybe because limiting liberty in favor of the state is their m.o.

doesn't mean the u.n. is useless ... i am still very pro-u.n. ... but i am cognizant of it weakness in this sphere ...

for what it's worth, the u.n. sec'y gen has made it a specific priority to rework the unhrc ... those efforts might be what is prompting such an overt effort by islamic countries ...
