He’s Baaaaack … God in Government … Courtesy of Michele Bachmann, et al.

In early April I wrote about several Christian-God-laden bills that pop up in consecutive congresses and languish in committee only to be reintroduced next go-round in the hopes that one day enough members of the House and Senate are saved and God can finally reach his righteous place in American government: front and center.

Well, they’re baaaack! And, true to form, our favorite crusading, crazy congresswoman, Michele Bachmann, has her name all over them. Of course, she is savvy enough never to introduce them; she mitigates the loony while maintaining her fundamentalist cred by co-sponsoring each bill.

Just know that these bills are active. They are in committee, and it only takes a few people in charge not to pay attention when it counts to have crap slip through the cracks and see these bills go to the House floor for a vote …

I describe a long-shot scenario, but isn’t it heebie-jeebie inducing enough to know these bills just. won’t. die. … like cockroaches …

To date in the 111th Congress, Bachmann has her name on the following …

  • H.Con.Res.121: Encouraging the President to designate 2010 as “The National Year of the Bible”. Paul C. Broun [GA, 10], Sponsor; Introduced 05.07.09; Referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform 05.07.09 (15 co-sponsors: 15 Republican)
  • H.Con.Res.131Directing the Architect of the Capitol to engrave the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the National Motto of “In God We Trust” in the Capitol Visitor Center. Daniel E. Lungren [CA, 3], Sponsor; Introduced 05.20.09; Referred to the House Committee on House Administration 05.20.09 (20 co-sponsors: 20 Republican)
  • H.Res.397Affirming the rich spiritual and religious history of our Nation’s founding and subsequent history and expressing support for designation of the first week in May as “America’s Spiritual Heritage Week” for the appreciation of and education on America’s history of religious faith. Randy J. Forbes [VA, 4], Sponsor; Introduced 05.04.09; Referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform 05.04.09 (63 co-sponsors: 59 Republican, 4 Democrat [3 Blue Dog])

Enjoy your separation of church and state.

Maybe she’ll be beaten this time, http://minnesotaindependent.com/36122/woodbury-attorney-may-challenge-bachmann-for-gop-primary

I think Wonkette’s reaction to her possible challenger is right on: good for America, BAD, BAD, BAD for comedy.

I’ve often wondered if this “Year of the Bible” thing has anything to do with Darwin Day. Probably not, but who knows?

I’m not the biggest fan either, but I didn’t want to be the first one to say something.

RA, do you like the new one? And please, PLEASE speak up. This blog is for YOU people. Do you like the new one? Kris & Mike approved…

Comment by ACG

Yes, it’s much better now. Though, for some reason the red feels a little jarring—it just doesn’t feel very stately. Perhaps change it to blue?

Comment by Radioactive afikomen

I can try! Mike, how would I do that…

Comment by ACG

i’m on it.
